Travertine slip resistance: understanding test information

Travertine slip resistance: understanding test information

Terms such as honed or tumbled describe processing. They are not, by themselves, slip-resistance classifications.

Which sample was tested?

The illustrated report from Süleyman Demirel University is dated 12 October 2023, number 2023-10/9, and concerns the specified Light travertine sample with a honed, filled surface. Check that the ordered product corresponds to the tested material and finish.

Different tests answer different questions

TS EN 12371 concerns frost testing, while TS EN 14231 measures slip resistance. Do not treat these results as interchangeable or freely convert a pendulum value into an R rating or a wet barefoot classification.

Pool, patio or steps

Water, contamination, maintenance and the shape of the surface affect real use. For a pool surround, request confirmation for wet barefoot conditions. For an entrance or stairs, assess the actual setting and its requirements.

Your next step

  1. Define the conditions in which the surface will be used.
  2. Request data for the exact finish.
  3. Have the relevant test method assessed for your project.
