Gravel, chippings and gabions in the garden
Start with the intended use, then choose the colour and grading. A planted bed, a comfortable path and a gabion basket require different solutions.
Decorative aggregate in beds
A mineral mulch can frame planting and give a bed structure. Choose the stone and build-up to suit the plants. It will still need leaves, debris and weeds removed; stone does not make a garden automatically maintenance-free.
Rounded gravel or angular chippings?
Crushed chippings have angular edges, while rounded gravel has smoother shapes. Walking comfort and suitability for vehicles also depend on grading, the supporting layers and stabilisation. Colour alone is not enough to select a path material.
Gabions
Stone-filled wire baskets can form screens, edges or, when properly designed, retaining structures. Match the stone size to the mesh and basket construction. A retaining wall needs its stability and structural design assessed.
Grading, quantity and delivery
A grading such as 8–16 mm may suit some decorative beds, depending on planting and design. Calculate volume first, then use the actual product’s bulk density to establish weight. Packaging, including available bulk bags, and transport are confirmed in the quotation. Gravel and chippings are supplied on request for a quote.
